A well-designed pair of glasses can add so much to a person’s style. Just like a smart suit, a designer dress, a quality pair of shoes or an elegant hat, they can say a lot about the wearer. With different specs styles you can make yourself look old, young, studious, sporty, dapper, absent-minded or anything you fancy. Just as you might change your hairstyle, or wear jeans rather than a suit, a change of glasses transforms your look.
I’ve been browsing the new Lyle & Scott range which has just landed at Specsavers. The collection includes a number of interesting styles, adding to the already huge selection in stores. Specsavers has really grown the number of styles that it offers to customers, enabling us to think of glasses not simply as a necessity but as an essential part of how we present ourselves.
I wear a heavy pair of tortoiseshell frames to give myself a studious and slightly vintage look. A pair of clear acetate frames is very contemporary and suitable for those with any colouring. Metal frames give a clean, smart look, while coloured frames allow you to bring out your personality. Frames shapes have similar effects: round glasses have a sixties look, aviators take us to the eighties, tortoiseshell evokes the fifties - the vintage look is driving much of the design of our spectacles frames at the moment.FOYERS 1
My favourites are the clear-framed glasses, which I had made up as sunglasses and clear prescription specs. My advice is to try as many styles as you can - take someone along to the store for advice - but be open-minded and try some you think may not suit you. You’ll soon see how glasses can enhance your style.FARR 1
Writing about personal style got me thinking not just about the clothes I was wearing, the watch on my wrist but also about my glasses. Previously, I usually wore contact lenses. This wasn’t because I didn’t like wearing glasses - I’d not made the effort to really explore the ranges of frames available. Until I tried glasses I hadn’t realised just how wide the choice of colour, shape and frame material was. I now wear glasses most of the time.
I particularly like the Lyle & Scott range; not only are they well made, but they offer a classic yet so up to date design - similar to their clothing collections. They offer a wide range of face shapes while giving you a contemporary look. Like a woman and her handbags or a man and his t-shirts, it’s possible to have a small collection of glasses to suit your every mood and style.FOYERS 5
