Would a digital hearing aid make a difference to my mum?

My mum is 70 in June and wears a traditional NHS hearing aid, but even with new batteries she is struggling to hear. She is starting to get depressed as she feels isolated because the background noise is so loud she is struggling to hear in a one to one conversation. Would a digital hearing aid make a difference and if so how much do they cost?
Answer:

It is very common for people to get depressed and feel isolated if they are unable to hear properly and join in conversation. The vast majority of modern hearing aids, including those available from the NHS, are digital and designed to help people hear better in a variety of situations. You don't say how long your mum has had the hearing aid for. My best advice is to make an appointment to see an audiologist where you can explain exactly what her difficulties are and they will then take you through the options available.
