Will a hearing aid help my scarred ear drums?

I had many sets of grommets when I was younger and had a hole in the eardrum, which I am not sure has healed. Hearing has been bad ever since I was young but now when I lie on my good ear I can only hear muffled sounds. GP has said my eardrum is very badly scarred. Would a hearing aid help in this case?

Answer:

The use of grommets for children is very common as they can suffer from ear infections on a regular basis. It is not uncommon for this to leave individuals with badly scarred ear drums which can lead to hearing loss. There is a very strong chance that you would benefit from a hearing aid. You should contact your GP in the first instance and asked to be referred for a full hearing assessment.
