Help and frequently asked questions

Is glaucoma hereditary?

About 1 in every 50 people over the age of 40 has glaucoma. People with a family history of it are at greater risk of developing the condition, as are Afro-Caribbeans and those who are very short sighted.

Just because it's in your family, doesn't mean that you'll necessarily develop it, but it's important to have regular eye examinations as you get older to identify any problems at an early stage.
