Has riding a motorcycle permanently damaged my hearing?

HelloSorry to bother you, looking for a bit of advice if possible. For around a year (on and off - during the dryer/warmer months only) I have used a motorcycle. I have always used a full face helmet and occasionally worn ear plugs (however more often i would ride without them). I rely on my hearing for work and am tested annually. Could my motorcycle use have caused permanent damage to my hearing? I have since sold my bike and as such is it possible for your hearing to recover? I am a 30 year old male. Thanks for your help.Neil.

Answer:

Hi NeilThanks for your question. It is possible that riding a motorcycle can cause a noise induced hearing loss and sometimes this can be permanent damage. The only way to know for certain is to have a full hearing assessment. Although you say you have now sold your motorcycle, for all other riders out there, the best advice is always to wear ear protection when you are out on your bike.
