Does the optician need to know my occupation before my eye exam?

Your lifestyle, occupation and hobbies might influence the type of tests used, and the lenses and frames dispensed.

Certain occupations have specific requirements too, e.g. the armed forces.

Your optician can also suggest what type of lenses would help you in your working life e.g. a musician might need a specific prescription for reading music or a dentist might need a closer working distance than would be achieved with normal reading spectacles.
