Do NHS hearing aids cut out background noise?

I already have a NHS hearing aid from the hospital. However it is only satisfactory when there is no background noise. Are there any updated hearing aids provided by the NHS that would cut out background noise?

Whilst hearing aid technology has dramatically improved over the last few years, the biggest challenge we still face is speech intelligibility in background noise. The latest hearing aids do have different forms of noise reduction but it is still not possible to cut out background sounds altogether. When you consider that people with normal hearing find it difficult to hear in a noisy bar or restaurant, it is reasonable to think that hearing aids can suddenly find a magic cure? You may wish to ask your GP or audiology department if you qualify for an upgrade but please be aware that there are still limitations as to what can be achieved.
