Can I get hearing aids for a Profound hearing loss?

I have had grommets numerous times that haven't worked, and a mastoidectomy, leaving me with a profound hearing loss. Can I get hearing aids?
Answer:

A profound level of hearing loss is one of our greatest challenges to deal with. From your question, it sounds like your major physiological difficulties are with the 'middle ear'. Whilst hearing aids can provide some benefit for people with a profound hearing loss, it is very difficult to predict how much speech intelligibility can be obtained. It may be that hearing aids give you a general sense of the sounds around you rather than the specific details. You may need to consider other communication tactics, such as lipreading,? to help you best communicate. Book an appointment at your local Hearing Centre and discuss with the audiologist what your options are.
