Learn about hearing loss

One in seven adults in the UK experiences some degree of hearing loss. For most people, hearing begins to deteriorate very gradually from the mid thirties – and over time the wear and tear on our hearing can damage the hearing nerve. Unfortunately, you can't reverse hearing loss resulting from nerve damage.

Some signs that you might have a hearing loss could include:

  • People sound like they are mumbling
  • Difficulty understanding what people are saying, especially in noisy situations like restaurants
  • Frequently asking people to “speak up,” “speak more clearly,” or to repeat themselves
  • Needing to turn up the volume of the television or radio
  • Withdrawal from conversations
  • Avoidance of some social settings

However, you don't have to live in a world of quieter, less distinct sounds.

Losing the ability to hear clearly can make life seem less vibrant, since sound plays a part in almost everything you do. Your friendships, family relationships and work all involve hearing and being heard, so its not surprising that hearing loss can make you feel isolated. The good news is that hearing aids can really help, and at Specsavers we can help you find the right hearing aids, at a more affordable price. Click on Detecting hearing loss.
