Now Iris has seen the optician and has decided she wants new glasses, it’s time to choose her frames and lenses. A dispensing assistant helps her through the process.
The first step is choosing lenses, which at Specsavers will always be high-quality PENTAX lenses with a free scratch-resistant treatment. Iris has decided she wants varifocals rather than bifocals or single vision lenses, and is surprised by the number of additional options open to her. The assistant explains and demonstrates what the various lens treatments do.
Next, Iris is looking for a frame that looks good and feels comfortable, as she’s planning to wear her new varifocals more often than her previous pair of reading glasses. Looking at Iris’s face shape and colouring, the assistant helps select frames that will best suit her. He talks her through the various ranges to help her make her decision.
Iris is also surprised to learn that complete glasses start from as little as £25. The dispensing assistant walks and talks her through the various ranges: the excellent value £25 and £45 ranges, the fashionable £69 range (the starting point for many of the special offers), the additional features of the £85 and £99 ranges, the designer brands of the £99 range and the rimless range at £169.
Iris is really taken by one of the rimless frames, but she’s worried that they might not be suitable for varifocal lenses. The dispensing assistant reassures her that, like the vast majority of Specsavers frames, they are.
Now the assistant needs to take careful measurements to make sure Iris’s new glasses fit correctly, measuring the distance between her pupils and checking that the frame sits comfortably on the bridge of her nose and behind her ears. As she’s having varifocals he also measures the exact position the lenses will be set in the frames she has chosen.
The assistant can now send Iris’s chosen frames, along with her measurements and lens selections, to the lab, where her glasses will be custom-made for her.
Finally, the assistant makes a collection and fitting appointment with Iris for next week when her new glasses will be ready.
