UPDATED regulations to safeguard workers’ eyesight have been welcomed by Specsavers Corporate Eyecare.

The new Control of Artificial Optical Radiation at Work Regulations came into force last week. Specsavers Corporate Eyecare has for many years been at the forefront of informing employers and safety managers about ways to safeguard the eyesight of employees.

In response to this new development, Jim Lythgow, director of strategic alliances at Specsavers Corporate Eyecare, comments: ‘Any guidance that helps to inform and educate employers with the intention of protecting employees’ eyesight is a positive step and very welcome.’

The new regulations aim to give workers more protection from exposure to hazardous artificial light, such as UV radiation and lasers. While artificial sources of light commonly found in the workplace, like overhead lighting, computer screens and photocopiers, are not covered under the regulations, some at-risk industries using hazardous light sources are likely to need to implement changes.
