Retinal detachment

Question

hello, i had an eye test today and it turns out i need low strength glasses, the optician also informed me i had a detached retina so he would be referrring me to doctor.. the way the optician explained to me was that it was quite common but after googling it ive read it can cause blindness. surely he would of told me this.. any advice gratefully received

As with most problems they come in varying degrees of severity. I can only assume that your was of a less serious nature otherwise the Optician would have used greater urgency. If, however, your symptoms feel to be increasing then it would be advisable to speed up the referral for example via your Optician, your GP or (as a last resort) A+E.
