I am a diabetic and aged 44, and am currently registered with Specsavers for my normal yearly eye check. I would very much like to get the Optomap eye screening and would not mind in paying for it and/or travelling to get this done. Could you tell me where the nearest branch would be to initiate enquiries. I live in Woodley, Reading, Berkshire.

Qualified optometrist Simon Kay BSc(Hons) MCOptom answers this question.
An Optomap is an ultra wide-field image of the retina at the back of the eye used for screening and diagnostic purposes, produced using red and green lasers. I am not aware of any Specsavers practice that has this instrument, but most practices offer free retinal photography as part of the eye test.
