Developed a lump on the red tear duct in the corner of my eye


I have developed a lump on the red tear duct in the corner of my eye. The lump is small and fleshy. It is itchy when I wake and looks quite swollen. I tried an over the counter anti-bacterial eye cream for conjunctivitis but it has not cleared after a week. What could this be? I do wear lenses but have avoided wearing them this week.

Answer Written answer:

It is difficult to say what this is without seeing it. I think you may have the problem on the inner canthus where the two eyelids meet. It may be a simple cyst, and the best treatment is hot compresses three of four times a day to help free it up. Otherwise you need to see your optometrist or GP for a firm diagnosis. Sometime these things don't clear up on their own and you may need it surgical treated.
