Ask the Optician

Can you fit current varifocal lenses into a new frame

Question

I had my eye test 2 weeks ago and do not need new glasses but my glasses feel uncomfortable. Is it possible to fit my current variofocals into new frames? I moved to Newquay in May this year and go to Specsavers here, but my current glasses were from an independent opticians in Yorkshire. Hope you can answer this for me.

Answer Written answer:
Qualified optometrist Simon Kay BSc(Hons) MCOptom answers this question.

It's pot luck if you can find a frame that the lenses will fit into, and the optical centres will have to be exactly right or the varifocals may be difficult to use.  The lenses could possibly be edged into a smaller frame. If you go into the practice the staff should be able to see if they have anything suitable.
