Can I wear contact lenses after pupils are dilated?

Question

Can I wear contact lenses after an eye test where my pupils have been dilated?

Answer Written answer:
Qualified optometrist Simon Kay BSc(Hons) MCOptom answers this question.

Drops are used at some eye tests to dilate the pupil to have a better look at the back of the eye. Yes I think that would be alright to put contact lenses in afterwards. I would wait about 20 minutes so that the drops have dissipated before doing so, and until the drops wear off, you may find it difficult to focus at near and be sensitive to light. You are usually advised not to drive afterwards.
