Can you tell me what is the best daily or monthly contact lens to buy for dry eyes? I wear them on average of 14 hours per day 5/6 days per week.
Qualified optometrist Simon Kay BSc(Hons) MCOptom answers this question.
For dry eyes the best contact lens is made out of a material called Silicone Hydrogel. They contain less water than conventional soft lenses, so are less prone to drying out and need less tears to keep them hydrated. They are more resistant to protein deposits and have easier handling due to the greater rigidity of the lenses. They are extremely oxygen permeable giving longer and healthier wearing time. They are made in daily and monthly modalities, by all the leading manufacturers such as Johnson and Johnson, Ciba Vision, Baush and Lomb and CooperVision.
